I’m just gonna say it: FUCK OPIOIDS. No seriously, fuck opioids. Not only are they reaching epidemic levels with our civilian population, our wounded vets are committing suicide at a rate of 22 per day, partially because of the opioid addiction.
To make matters worse, the government is trying to use the opioid crisis as leverage against legalizing one of the things that can help get people off of opioids. Yes Virginia, cannabis can help get people off of opioids. Believe it or not, cold turkey is simply not an option for many people.
Marijuana isn’t just something a bunch of college kids smoke and play Halo with. Cannabis is a legitimately medicinal plant. It’s a plant!!! Not only have I personally felt significant reduction in nausea with THC, but the CBD compound known as cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive compound in marijuana, could be a game changer for people who are in pain both physically and psychologically.
CBD is showing more than anecdotal evidence that it can help treat inflammation, seizures in young children, and PTSD symptoms in our wounded vets. Oh, and did I mention that it may cure certain forms of cancer? #BOOM
As the cousin, nephew, and grandchild of wounded war veterans, there are a few things closer to my heart than those who were made to suffer in defense of our country. I got lucky and came up at a time when there were no major conflicts, because handing a gun to me and telling me to kill someone simply because of their geography, would be a god damn nightmare.
Wounded vets deserve every piece of respect that our country can give them. Cannabis should be part of that respect. The fact that we put old-fashioned notions about “marijuana” (it’s real name is cannabis) in front of escalating scientific evidence that leads to the suffering of those who suffered for us, is a crime against our society. It’s a slap in the face for those who are suffering.
Recently, at the “Wick and Mortar” mixer event in Seattle, I got the chance to interview Rick from a company called Citizen CBD. Rick was a combat nurse, and his CEO is a combat veteran. So the horrors of PTSD are not far away for them.
Cannabis and CBD in particular are a great way for our citizens and veterans to get the relief they need without the use of opioids. Opioids have mountains of statistical evidence that they are harmful, even fatal, and yet there has not been one official death due to marijuana.
Opioids have been proven highly addictive. Marijuana has not. Opioids leave PTSD sufferers in a depressed haze. Cannabis makes them want to see another day. It helps them find their smile again. Opioids are harsh chemicals. Cannabis grows naturally out of mother earth, for God sake.
Take a look at the interview video above. Check out the Citizen CBD’s website. It’s pretty damn cool, to be honest. And if you support cannabis and our wounded vets, check out our friends at GrowForVets.org.
If you are someone who has benefited from cannabis either in the fight against opioid addiction, or from symptoms of PTSD, please leave your comments about it below. I’d love to help spread the word.
Finally, I’m getting close to having more than 10 fans for this cannabis blog. If you’d share this post and video with your friends, perhaps we can hit 11!
Power to the flower, my babies.
